University Student Dies in Elevator Incident in Türkiye

A university student at a state-run dormitory in Türkiye’s west Aydın province died on October 26 while trying to get out of an elevator that state authorities said was overcrowded, Duvar is among outlets to report. Students protested against dorm management, saying they had complained about the elevator in question “for months.” Aydın Gov. Yakup Canbolat told Anadolu Agency that 16 people boarded an elevator designed to carry 15 people, and that the unit began moving on the first floor before the doors closed. He said the elevator was last checked on September 21. Various entities are investigating the incident.
