The grants director for Harrison County, West Virginia, has applied for a US$100,000 West Virginia Courthouse Facilities Improvement Fund grant to help replace the aging, problematic elevator system at the Harrison County Courthouse in Clarksburg, The Exponent Telegram reports. The system consists of two elevators serving the courthouse’s main lobby and a freight elevator. Both lobby elevators are now operational, but were both out of service for a time in April, forcing staff to accommodate individuals with mobility issues by using the freight elevator, which has issues with overheating. One of the lobby elevators continues to require resetting. County officials are working on getting quotes to replace the system. Should the state award the grant, the county could not use it until the first of the 2023 calendar year.
