A 61-year-old woman was recently found dead after being trapped in an elevator in a residential building for several hours in Palermo, Italy, the Mirror reports. The elevator was stuck between two floors following a power cut, officials believe. An autopsy has been arranged for the woman, who officials believe may have succumbed to the heat and lack of water during the time spent trapped in the elevator. Temperatures across Italy, particularly Palermo’s island of Sicily, have exceeded 40°C for days due to a devastating heatwave gripping Southern Europe. Investigators are working to establish the cause of the power failure, and authorities are still investigating the tragedy.
