Young Child Loses Thumb On Australia Store’s Escalator

A young child with his mother at a shopping mall in Sydney, Australia, was rushed to a hospital after the thumb on his right hand received a deep cut from metal on an escalator they were riding, Daily Mail reports. Officials said the pair were riding the escalator on May 7 when the boy’s thumb got caught by a piece of metal below the holding strap, leaving him with severe bleeding. He was rushed to a children’s hospital, where he was immediately taken to surgery. The doctors were not able to save the boy’s thumb. He was able to go home, but doctors said the child may need further surgery. The boy’s mother has urged shoppers with children to be very careful when out. Officials with the mall are involved in an investigation into the accident.
