Self-Sustaining Community Proposed for Toronto Suburb

Developer Sunray Group has proposed a “complete, self-sustaining community” at 22 Metropolitan Road in an industrial area of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, Urban Toronto reports. The 34,649 m² site forms an irregular shape, backing into the Highway 401/Warden Avenue interchange. Designed by Z01, the proposed community would include five high-rise towers ranging from 23 to 48 stories and a 12-story mid-rise tower. The community would bring 2,048 residential units and a seniors’ residence, with housing options for varying levels of care. More than 167,610 m² of gross floor area would provide retail, office and hotel space. Plans include five elevators each for the taller towers and two for the mid-rise. A park and public space are intended to foster a sense of community.
