Additional VT Units Among India’s DMRC Crowd-Control Measures

Installing additional elevators, escalators and moving walks at busy rail stations is among measures being undertaken by India’s Delhi Metro Rail Corp. (DMRC) to handle surging crowds, The Economic Times reports. The new vertical-transportation (VT) units join strategic planning, increased train capacity, real-time monitoring, digitalized booking and social media updates — all aimed at better handling heavy passenger loads. After analyzing traffic patterns, DMRC remodeled stations including Chandi Chowk, Millennium City in Gurgaon, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Dilshad Garden and Shadara with new VT, automated fare collections, expanded concourses and improved signage.
