A 36-story addition to the 22-acre Hilton Hawaiian Village resort on Waikiki Beach in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, has been approved by the City of Honolulu, Pacific Business News reports. First opened in 1955 and growing into one of the largest properties in the Hilton hotel chain, Hilton Hawaiian Village has 4,000 rooms. The tower addition, which will replace older low-rise shops along Ala Moana Boulevard, will add 515 new rooms by 2029. The addition will also include retail, a pool and a lobby. Hilton executives said the expansion is a “bold investment in Hawaii’s future” that will keep it competitive with other Pacific destinations and generate hundreds of jobs, including 500 permanent positions.
