Otis announced in February Otis Marine will install eight cargo lifts each on three vessels for the U.K.’s Royal Navy as part of the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) project. FSS provides support ships designed to deliver munitions, supplies and provisions to the Royal Navy at sea. The principal purpose of the lifts will be to move provisions and stores. Six lifts will be certified for ATEX Zone 2 (an area where an explosive atmosphere is a rare occurrence during normal operations), and they will be fitted with watertight doors. All units will damage-resistant, regardless of the sea state. Otis Marine has more than 100 years’ experience in the marine industry, providing a single point of contact for customers in this niche segment. The division serves cruise ships, ferries, commercial ships, offshore platforms and naval vessels.
