JDL Development has released updated plans for its five-phase, 8.1-acre North Union megadevelopment on Chicago’s Near North Side, Chicago YIMBY reported on March 26. Bounded by the CTA Brown Line tracks and West Oak, West Chestnut and North Wells streets, the phase one 26-story tower is under design by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, Latent Design and Omni Workshop. North Union will create a connection between River North, Old Town, Gold Coast, Rush and Division and Cabrini Green. Previously revealed during a November 2020 community meeting, the project has been modified to expand green space and reconfigure other aspects. Phase one of the development will include three buildings holding 527,880 ft2, bringing 486 residential dwellings — 41 affordable — plus 5,765 ft2 of retail space. Each phase will launch approximately two years after the previous, with the fifth phase slated to launch in 2029.
