Elevator Industry Mourns Loss of Darryl Cervi

Darryl Cervi, a respected member of the elevator industry in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, passed away unexpectedly on August 30 after a short but valiant battle against Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, also known as prion disease. Cervi started his work in the elevator trade in the summer of 1968 with a “temporary” job as a helper, and never looked back. His career included time with Armor Elevator, Schindler and Dover, culminating in opening and leading the Alberta operations for Fujitec in 1999. Under his guidance, this proved to be one of the most successful branches in North America every year until his retirement in 2017.  Prior to his retirement, he and his son pioneered the introduction of touchscreen technology into elevator cabs and destination dispatch systems, which was featured in an article he wrote for the April 2010 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD. Friends knew Cervi as a mentor to many and a trusted voice who valued honesty and hard work.
