National Event Promotes Elevator And Escalator Safety

This week, November 14-19, is National Elevator and Escalator Safety Week, an annual event in the U.S. and Canada started by the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) to promote public awareness about safe, proper use of our industry’s equipment. Educational programs such as EESF’s SafeTRiders aim to instill the principles of elevator and escalator safety from an early age and help future generations live more safely. In recognition of the event, NYC Department of Buildings (DoB) observed in its latest Building News Update that there are more than 70,000 passenger elevators and more than 2,800 escalators in NYC under the jurisdiction of DoB and that, each year, these devices facilitate approximately one billion safe trips. “Though elevators and escalators are still among the safest forms of transportation in NYC, you still need to use common sense when riding,” DoB stated, inviting readers to follow the department on social media to learn more.
