Amtrak plans to invest US$16 million into improving its Johnstown Station in Pennsylvania as part of the Johnstown-to-Arts Corridor Project, Progressive Railroading reported on November 23. Improvements include replacing the current platform, headhouse, elevator and stairway with a new 8-in. above-top-of-rail island platform and a new headhouse with heat and air conditioning, as well as a new elevator, stairway, waiting area and storage area. The improvements fall under the Federal Transit Administration’s State of Good Repair Funding program, with many concerning Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. “Making our stations accessible to all customers is a critical priority and we are actively performing construction, renovation, repair and upgrades of properties both here in Johnstown and throughout the United States,” said Amtrak Assistant Vice President of Stations and Facilities George Holz. “Improvements to the Johnstown Station platforms, tunnels and track will ensure accessible, inclusive and safe experiences for everyone as they travel with us.” Construction is set to begin October 2022.
