Colombo, Sri Lanka, vertical-transportation company Aitken Spence Elevators (Pvt.) Ltd. recently planted approximately 1,000 trees, Sunday Observer reports. The plantings, along the area’s Southern Expressway, included 760 kumbuk plants, 200 mee plants, and 20 each of the karanda and neem trees. The plantings went for approximately 3 km and were implemented in collaboration with the Road Development Authority and the Geo Explore Foundation. The campaign was pushed as part of a plan to improve the climate by creating carbon sinks, improving soil and water quality, curbing noise pollution and preserving endemic plants. Aitken Spence Elevators is a joint venture with Otis.
