Schmersal Group, an international leader in machine safety with a comprehensive range of safety switchgear products, has instructed its sales partner for Russia to stop the supply of safety switchgear and systems to customers located in Russia, according to a press release on March 7. In Russia, the Schmersal Group has supplied both leading companies in the machinery manufacturing industry and end users of machinery and equipment in various industries — from raw material extraction to the consumer goods industry and automotive production. This cooperation is now being suspended. The economic sanctions imposed by the German mechanical engineering industry have strengthened the company’s decision. Managing Director Philip Schmersal said: “In the past, we have worked together with our customers in Russia in a trusting manner via our sales partner. The step of discontinuing this cooperation for the time being is not easy for us, especially since it means foregoing a sales volume that is noticeable. But we see the need to take a stand. We do not want to contribute to the economy and production of a country that disregards the sovereignty of another country and brings great suffering to its people.”
