A two-hotel project going up on Hainan island in southern China will include a “hanging gardens” design that can be experienced by guests at the 160-m tower, dezeen reports. Designed by architect Büro Ole Scheeren, the project will be named Sanya Horizons after the beach where it’s rising, and where it will welcome guests to both The Regent Sanya Bay and the Hotel Indigo Sanya Bay. The plan combines the hotels in one large structure, allowing the rest of the site to remain a natural landscape. The project’s guest rooms will provide sea views and private terraces, and some rooms will have their own private swimming pools. Otherwise, guests will enjoy one of the largest infinity pools in the world on Sanya Horizon’s 75-m-high spot, which includes a garden area. The design includes six stacked blocks curved toward the view of the ocean, with plants on the roofs of each block creating a hanging-gardens effect. The horizontal design will reduce the impact of wind on the building’s structure, while the internal layouts will draw cross ventilation. The project is set for completion in 2026.
