Operators of the Bergenline Avenue rail station in Union City, New Jersey, shut down the unit after five people were trapped in an elevator, with two of them injured, NorthJersey.com reports. A spokesperson with NJ Transit said the elevator “experienced mechanical issues” about 6 p.m. March 17. New Jersey Transit Police officers, along with EMS officials, quickly arrived at the Hudson Bergen Light Rail station and “performed a rescue operation” to remove the riders from the elevator car. Officials shut down the three-elevator station while a crew worked to investigate and repair the problem on the unit. The hurt riders were not facing life-threatening injuries.
