ELA To Push For VT As “Essential Safety Service” at Annual Conference

The European Lift Association (ELA) will call for vertical-transportation (VT) service providers and manufacturers to be granted the status of “essential safety services” during ELA’s “Conference 2022 — Lifts and Escalators: A Road to the Future in a Safe, Digital and Energy-Efficient World,” on May 19-20 in Frankfurt, Germany. Approximately 100 participants, including ELA members from 24 European associations, members of ELA Working Groups and committees and members of the press are expected to attend the event, the first in-person iteration in more than two years. ELA President Roberto Zappa says VT having essential safety services status will emphasize the vital role the lift industry plays in the modern built environment. Such status, he says, will “avoid the problems we saw during the peak of the pandemic that severely hampered essential service and production activities and caused operational difficulties.” A range of important topics is on the ELA conference agenda.
