Thomas M. “Tom” Braaten

Thomas M. “Tom” Braaten, who enjoyed a 41-year elevator industry career, passed away on June 20 at age 84 at his home in Moline, Illinois. Braaten began his career at Montgomery Elevator in 1959, moving into the sales department in 1962. In 1965, he became sales engineer for the Kansas City territory and was named manager of the Oklahoma City branch in 1966. When Montgomery opened its Dallas branch in 1969, Braaten became its first manager and was instrumental in developing it into one of the firm’s largest operations. Promoted to senior vice president-Branch Operations in 1990, Braaten held numerous roles during his long career, including management positions in sales, service and marketing. He was elected a company director in 1989. During his tenure as senior VP, sales and marketing, Montgomery enjoyed new product growth of over 60%. Braaten retired from KONE in 2000. Well-wishers on Facebook described him as a great leader who was well-respected by all. Survivors include wife, Terry; children, Jennifer, Eric and Andrew; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Per Braaten’s wishes, no services were held, but donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or March of Dimes.
