KONE Retires Older DC Elevator Drive Equipment

KONE Americas announced it is retiring its ReSolve with Unity DC drive product, effective September 6. No longer modernizing older DC gearless machines, KONE now offers customers machine replacements with newer AC technology. KONE Americas Vertical Market Business Director for Modernization Dan Walsh observed older DC technology presents risks including braking systems failing to meet the latest safety codes, costly repairs and prolonged equipment downtime. Worn traction sheaves typically need replacement or regrooving, and the number of technicians trained to repair DC machines is dwindling, KONE observes. Availability of compatible repair parts is a further challenge. “The benefits behind the latest AC gearless technology include increased energy efficiency, lower cost to maintain the equipment long-term, safety and future-proofing the lifespan of your building,” Walsh said.
