India Hospital Faces Major Elevator Outages

Services at MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur in Odisha, India’s Ganjam district have been severely affected as 10 out of 29 lifts have not functioned for several days, Odisha Bytes reported on May 22. With more than 30 departments, MKCG Hospital has more than 10 high-rise buildings, and elevators are mostly used by the patients and their attendants in various wards. There are four lifts in a five-story building for surgery, which is used by more than 500 patients, attendants, visitors, doctors and staff daily. As two lifts are out of order, the other two are overburdened. Additionally, two lifts in another four-story building have been out of order for a few days, and the patients, doctors and others there have had to use the stairs. In the Super Speciality ward, three out of the five lifts are defunct.
