An eight-year-old boy in Faridabad, India, was stuck in a housing society lift for around 2 h on August 20, The Tribune reports. The boy and his family live on the fourth floor. The boy was headed to the ground floor to meet with his tutor when it became stuck on the second floor. According to the report, the boy “remembered his father’s lesson of not panicking in crises” and remained calm, working on his homework to distract himself while waiting to be rescued. The boy’s father said the boy made efforts to alert authorities by pressing the elevator’s emergency button and knocking. The boy’s tutor alerted the family that he had not reached class, and they were able to determine that the elevator was non-operational through a security guard. A technical team was then summoned, and the boy was safely released from the elevator. The family has sought action against the responsible authorities for lift maintenance claiming the elevator regularly malfunctions, and “though their son managed to brave panic, it could have done major harm.”
