Modern Elevator installed and will maintain two new elevators at the E 149 Street subway station in the southeast Bronx, NY, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) tells ELEVATOR WORLD. Modern Elevator is part of design/build team Judlau-STV. MTA announced completion of the accessibility project on September 15. E 149 Street is the fifth of 12 MTA stations slated for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades this year. Six Bronx stations are undergoing elevator construction with one slated for completion this year. The MTA Expects to award ADA work for seven additional Bronx stations as part of its 2020-2024 Capital Plan. Work at E 149 Street was funded by a federal grant and completed as part of a design/build package for eight stations. ADA work at 29 MTA stations is underway, with seven of those projects expected to be complete by the end of this year. “The Authority is delivering accessibility projects and awarding contracts at an unprecedented pace,” MTA stated.
