Redeveloped Railway Station in Southwest India To Open Ahead of Schedule

The redeveloped Kollam railway station in the state of Kerala in southwest India, which will be served by new vertical-transportation (VT) equipment, is slated for completion six months ahead of schedule in December 2025, The Hindu reports. Demolition of existing buildings has largely been completed to make way for a new 55,000-ft², five-story terminal building with two escalators, eight lifts, a baggage scanner and more. A 36-m-wide concourse will connect that building to another terminal served by four escalators and four elevators. Compared to a mall, the concourse will be open to the public rather than restricted to ticket-holding passengers. In addition, a five-story parking garage with space for 150 cars and more than 230 bicycles is taking shape.
