On February 19, Schindler spotlighted a transportation system that includes 94 Schindler 9300 escalators serving the new Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport on the coast of eastern China. The OEM provided the escalators to the 470,000-m2-plus airport when it opened in 2021, and today has five full-time maintenance staff on-site to ensure the units are in good working order. Performing equipment checks daily, the Schindler team carries out enhanced maintenance checks — including component inspections, cleaning and lubrication — every 15 days. Twice the size of London’s Heathrow Airport, the Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport dramatically boosts the area’s air traffic capacity and is projected to serve up to 60 million passengers a year once two additional runways are completed.
