The state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India welcomed its first outdoor escalators on March 14, with state Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu inaugurating the four units installed by Schindler India at the hilltop Hanuman temple Jakhu in Shimla, the Weekly Voice is among outlets to report. At a height of 2,455 m above sea level, the escalators can carry 6,000 passengers per h from the parking lot and include safety brakes and double-drive technology. The units feature louvred, polycarbonate sheet balustrades that let in natural light, and aluminum composite panels on the lower levels provide ventilation. At each level, paintings depicting the Ramayana storyline have been installed, and LED spotlights further enhance the visitor experience.
