Elevator Incident in China Leads to Fatality

In the Panlong District of Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, an elevator malfunction led to the death of a 59-year-old resident, Dimsum Daily is among outlets to report. The elevator lost control during operation, falling from the 17th floor to the basement level before rapidly ascending to the 33rd floor and colliding with the lift shaft ceiling. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The elevator has been in service since January 2014 and was last inspected in the fall of 2024, according to reports. Officials say the elevator undergoes monthly maintenance checks with repairs recently being performed. The property management firm has requested that the maintenance company thoroughly inspect all elevators in the complex following the accident. Officials from the Kunming Special Equipment Safety Supervision Department confirmed that an investigation is underway.
