Bauer Gear Motor now offers a range of energy-saving permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), which will fulfill the requirements of the soon-to-be-implemented Super Premium Efficiency (IE4) classification. IE4 has the potential to achieve energy savings of up to 40% compared to an IE2-classified inverter-driven squirrel-cage motor. The motors are designed for various applications, including those for constant torque applications such as elevators and conveyors.
The series employs a rotor that integrates embedded permanent magnets made from rare-earth materials, instead of the squirrel-cage rotor found in induction motors. It reduces heat losses from the rotor by 100% and total losses by approximately 25%, and increases total efficiency by at least 10%. PMSMs have high power density, which, for geared motors, yields higher system efficiency with minimal installation volume, in addition to reduced weight. The drives can produce high torques for the same installation volume as conventional induction motors and are available in both ventilated and non-ventilated configurations ranging from 0.55 kW to 15 kW. They operate on 380-V to 500-V power supplies and are rated for inverter duty, offering an extended speed range with constant torque.

Eco-Friendly Inductive Proximity Sensors
Carlo Gavazzi has extended its ICB Series with a new generation of Eco-Friendly Inductive Proximity Sensors. M18 and M30 housing sizes have also been released to complement its M12 housings. The ICB series features a high-performance potting material made from recycled corn byproduct, intended to provide higher resistance to mechanical stress, increased reliability, improved stability and a longer sensor lifetime. The series also has an air-core sensing coil, which replaces traditional ferrites and coils. This new coil has a higher immunity to magnetic fields than traditional coils. The sensor can withstand higher vibration levels and impacts than older inductive proximity sensors, because it has no ferrite coil susceptible to cracking.
The ICB series is available in standard- and double-distance sensing ranges. Its nickel/brass housings are available in long and short barrel lengths, with three-wire sensors available in either normally opened or closed negative-positive-negative or positive-negative-positive outputs. Connection options include a 2-m-long polyvinyl-chloride cable or M12 disconnect plug.
