Jackson recounts the events of the Buildings NY trade show and Co-op & Condo Expo, which took place in New York City in March.
The Buildings NY trade show took place on March 30-31 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Following the event on April 12 was the NYC Co-op & Condo Expo that took place at the Hilton New York Hotel. Both events were supported by the NYC elevator industry; and both contractors and suppliers were displayed at the events. Once again, stalwart Nouveau Elevator Co. had one of the largest booth displays at Buildings NY. The trade show was moved up from its traditional June date due to pending construction and expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Buildings NY took on a “green” building theme with most of the educational sessions and aisle-specific suppliers trumpeting the wares of green products and topics. The show drew more than 4,300 attendees over the two days, with an additional 400 conference participants and 1,900 exhibitor personnel, according to Christine Ford with Reed Expo, the event’s sponsor.
The Co-op & Condo Expo, although in a smaller venue, was also well attended. Because of the local nature of the attendees, the event had more NYC-based suppliers and contractors. The elevator industry was represented by contractors, but also suppliers and consultants. Many of the displayed companies had a sizable portfolio of business in the residential area. The trade show covered three floors of the Hilton New York Hotel, with more than 270 exhibitors. Buildings NY, which is run by publisher Yale Robbins, Inc., will be held again on May 2-3, 2012.
