Educational Focus, Volume 3

Educational-Focus-Volume-3

A new resource for readers interested in new technical knowledge

The new Educational Focus, Volume 3 is the latest in a series of compilations of technical articles newly approved for continuing-education credit. A total of 16 hr. of credit is available by passing the exam for each article. They have been approved for credit by the National Association of Elevator Contractors for the Certified Elevator Technician (CET®) and (with the exception of 4 hr.) the Certified Accessibility and Private-Residence Lift Technician (CAT®) programs. They have been applied for credit to NAESA International for QEI and the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Like volume two, this book includes articles published in ELEVATOR WORLD between 2005 and 2013. Again, EW Technical Advisory Group member Dr. Albert So selected the contents for and edited this volume. He grouped the articles into four sections: “Escalators,” “Hydraulic Lifts,” “Operation and Maintenance” and “Energy.” Each section opens with an introduction by So and closes with assessment examination questions. Tutorials and learning-reinforcement questions follow each article.

The book’s 176 pages delve into braking systems; power units; testing and evaluation; variable-voltage, variable-frequency and high-rise applications; energy calculation; energy efficiency; lighting; and more. Authors are from the U.S., Germany, Russia, the U.K., India, Switzerland, China and Jordan. Unlike volumes one and two, this book is printed in full color. Like volume two, it is spiral bound for workbook-style flexibility. All Educational Focus publications are available at www.elevatorbooks.com in both print and digital formats.
