EHC Brazil Launched
EHC Global announced the official launch of EHC Brazil in January. EHC Brazil plans to open the doors to its own facility in Londrina, ParanĆ”, in May to service the needs of both new and existing customers. The company cites growth in both engineering and manufacturing sectors due to major planned developments to the countryās infrastructure leading up to the 2014 FĆ©dĆ©ration Internationale de Football Association World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
Uwe Fritz is responsible for managing EHCās new facility in Brazil. Fritz began his professional career in 1992 with a major European escalator manufacturer and holds an MBA and a diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He is fluent in Portuguese, English and German. EHC expects that as a former escalator production manager, Fritzās industry experience and knowledge of the Brazilian market will allow the company to establish and implement strategic goals, while expanding its operations.

Niagara Falls To Host Ceca In June
The 2013 Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) Annual Convention is set for June 4-8 at the Hilton Hotel & Suites in Niagara Falls, with an exhibition at nearby Fallsview Casino Resort. A golf day, Presidentās Reception, Kickoff Breakfast with magician Greg Frewin, Gala Dinner Dance, Annual General Meeting and educational sessions round out the events. The association invites members of its United partners (the National Association of Elevator Contractors, the International Association of Elevator Consultants and NAESA International) to attend as delegates. ITI Hydraulik Promotes Engineering Manager
In December 2012, ITI Hydraulik in Quebec, Canada, announced the promotion of Simon Proulx-Croteau to engineering manager. He joined the company in 2010 and previously served as an engineering coordinator. He graduated with a bachelorās degree from Ćcole de Technologie SupĆ©rieure ā UniversitĆ© du QuĆ©bec.

Kone to Supply Cruise Vessel
KONE has signed an agreement to supply the Mein Schiff 4, a TUI Cruise vessel to be delivered in spring 2015. The new cruise ship will be the sister ship of Mein Schiff 3, also supplied by KONE, and both vessels will be built at STX Finland shipyard in Turku. KONE will provide 10 passenger and eight service elevators, two escalators and two platform lifts for people with impaired mobility. All elevators will be MiniSpaceĀ® elevators powered by KONEās EcoDiscĀ® hoisting machine.

Joint Venture EHEPL Launched
Eastern Hemisphere Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (EHEPL) has been established as a joint venture of ESKAY Elevators of Mumbai and BIOFIAL of Greece. The new industrial-manufacturing company specializes in the production of hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic high-pressure units for industrial application, such as in hydraulic lifts. It aims to connect the fragmented elevator-manufacturing groups to the global technical leaders of the industry. EHEPL has entered into an agreement with BIOFIAL to be the sole representative of the company to market, sell and provide after-sales support on a pan-India level. EHEPLās goal is to assist the elevator industry in developing extraordinary elevating solutions. The company plans on playing a big role in connecting small and medium-sized elevator manufacturers and installers across the country with advanced technology and design from across the world. BIOFIAL has produced and distributed hydraulic cylinders and systems to the requirements of ISO 9001 since 1998.
Mitsubishi Electric Joint Venture
Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has announced the establishment of a joint-venture company with U.A.E.-based ETA Ascon Holding LLC. Called Mitsubishi Elevator ETA India Pvt. Ltd., the business sells, manufactures, installs and provides maintenance for elevators and escalators in India. Headquartered in Chennai, the joint venture began business in January. With approximately 1,000 employees, its ownership is 45% ETA Ascon, 40% Mitsubishi Electric, 10% Mitsubishi Corp. and 5% Mitsubishi Electric Building Techno-Service Co. Ltd.
Mitsubishi Electric has distributed elevators and escalators in the country through a local agent since 1995, installing its products primarily in the premium segment, including luxury hotels and offices. Mitsubishi Elevator ETA India has taken over the business of this local agent. In addition to expanding sales in the premium segment, the new company will enter the residential segment and others, where the demand for elevators is showing high growth. It aims to grow sales volume by strengthening its sales network across the country and offering more products that fulfill local needs. A new logistics center is planned to enable more efficient procurement of components and develop a product-supply framework. Also, an engineering center is to be established to strengthen customer solutions in terms of product specifications and technical requirements.
Engineers from Japan are to provide company employees with technical training to enhance the quality and reliability of installations and servicing. The new companyās managing director and CEO is Masahito Endo, and its deputy CEO is Bharat Vishnani.

Kone Acquires Isralift
KONE has acquired Isralift, its authorized distributor in Tel Aviv. Isralift was founded in 1961 and has distributed KONE products for more than 10 years. āIsralift has excellent knowledge of our products, and [it has] developed strong customer relationships in the market,ā Pierre Liautaud, executive vice president and area director for South and West Europe, KONE, said.
Middle East
Schindler Announces Three Contracts
In January, Schindler announced three vertical-transportation contracts in the U.A.E. and Qatar, totaling 135 elevators, 87 escalators and eight moving walks. First, the company will support the planned Dubai International Airport Concourse Four, Phase Three expansion, with 45 custom elevators, 43 escalators, six moving walks and its Lobby VisionĀ® supervisory panel display. Installation will begin in April, with completion slated for September 2014.
Schindler was named sole elevator supplier for the Twin Towers project, a mixed-use development featuring a hotel and an office block for Doha, Qatarās West Bay district. Each tower will rise 46 floors and sit on a podium, with four basement parking levels. West Bay is one of the newest districts in Doha and home to a number of the cityās tallest skyscrapers. In addition to 32 elevators, Schindler will supply Lobby Vision and Personal Occupant Requirement Terminal destination-dispatch systems for the project. Installation is scheduled to be complete in September.
The company will also be the sole supplier of mobility solutions for the North Gate Mall and Office Buildings, a mixed-use development on one of Dohaās most strategically important arterial roadways, Al Shamal Road. Schindler will supply 58 elevators, 44 escalators and two moving walks as part of Phase Oneās construction. The equipment is to be installed by June 2014.
Saudi Arabia
School Elevator Installations
In January, Kinetek Elevator Group received an order from its representative, Al Najim Saudi International Co. Ltd., for 15 hydraulic elevators to be installed in Saudi ARAMCO-built schools in the Eastern region of the country. All installations will be individually engineered to fit in the existing hoistways. The project is to be completed by summer 2013.

The 13th International Asansƶr Istanbul 2013 Exhibition is to take place on April 4-7 in Istanbul. Mitsubishi Electric Establishes New Company
In January, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. announced the establishment of Mitsubishi Electric Turkey A. ĀøS ., enabling it to reach the countryās elevator market directly. Located in Istanbul, the new company will act as a base to expand and support Mitsubishi Electricās business in Turkey and surrounding regions. Kei Uruma will serve as president of the new company.
