Henning ELVI 2 Wins Liftinstituut Certification for CAT5 Testing

Schwelm, Germany-based Henning’s ELVI 2 Elevator Inspection System has received ASME A17.7-2007/CSA B44.7-07 performance certification from Notified Body Liftinstituut as an alternative system for Category 5 (CAT5) testing, according to Kevin Heling of Wurtec, Henning’s distributor for the U.S. and Canada. The certification means that the baseline requirement for an alternative method of CAT5 testing is satisfied when using ELVI 2, and that the system can perform CAT5 tests without load or need for a baseline as long as the elevator had been initially tested with weights during acceptance. The following tests can be performed to verify performance:

  • Machine brake test according to 8.6.4.20.4
  • Emergency brake test according to 8.6.4.20.11
  • Traction according to 8.6.4.20.10
  • Safety test according to 8.6.4.20.1
  • Buffer test according to 8.6.4.20.3
