Hyundai Elevator Launches Advanced Maintenance Service 'MIRI' for Elevators

Hyundai Elevator announced on the 1st of June that it plans to introduce an innovative elevator advanced maintenance service called ‘MIRI,’ which integrates Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud, big data, and robot technologies. The name ‘MIRI’ signifies the company’s commitment to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction by preemptively addressing customer needs before they even call.

CEO Cho Jae-cheon, during the MIRI launch event, highlighted the core values pursued by MIRI, emphasizing “communication” and “connection.” He stated that MIRI aims to provide new value by facilitating transparent communication with customers based on reliable elevator information and creating connections between elevators and various devices such as smartphones, AI, and robots. He further stressed his expectation that MIRI will play a central role in elevators evolving into platforms beyond mere transportation.

Hyundai Elevator’s advanced maintenance service ‘MIRI’ was born through the application of the ‘Elevator Availability Increase Technology,’ developed over a period of 33 months starting in 2020, as a national project. Thanks to the release of ‘MIRI,’ elevator downtime (operational stoppage time) due to malfunctions can be reduced by up to 43% compared to previous standards.

The main technologies that made this possible include

  • part life measurement model
  • failure detection and classification service
  • pre-failure detection alarm service
  • IoT gateway dedicated to hoists. Customers can respond in advance by checking the part replacement cycle and abnormal signals provided by Miri, and even in the event of a problem, on-site situation information is automatically sent to the maintenance engineer at the same time as reporting.

Services tailored to the upscale and advanced housing trends are also noteworthy. ‘MIRI Call,’ an elevator remote calling system integrated with AI assistants like Siri and Bixby, reduces waiting time and increases convenience for passengers. ‘MIRI View,’ based on intelligent video analysis and voice recognition technology, ensures passenger safety by immediately alerting administrators or customer service centers in case of emergencies or anomalies, enabling swift responses through AI.

In addition to the elevator-robot integration technology that is gaining attention in various settings such as hospitals, hotels, and mixed-use complexes, ‘MIRI’ also includes building management systems (BMS), security solutions, and integrated digital signage services.
