Fujitec becomes first Japanese company to receive certification for elevator maintenance using advanced remote monitoring in Singapore.
submitted by Fujitec
Fujitec Co., Ltd. recently became the first Japanese company to obtain certification for elevator maintenance using remote monitoring in Singapore. Fujitec acquired this certification, promoted by the Singapore government, through its group company Fujitec Singapore Corp. Ltd. These regulations are the first of their kind established in Singapore for the remote monitoring of maintenance in countless high-rise buildings throughout the country to enhance elevator sustainability.
Background
Elevators are a critical part of social infrastructure in Singapore — a country of numerous high-rise buildings — to make effective use of the limited land area. To this end, the Singapore government pursues various initiatives to ensure sound maintenance and management, earning the country a strong reputation in advanced elevator maintenance. The government also began establishing measures to enhance maintenance efficiency and develop careers in response to recent trends in the aging population of engineers involved in maintenance.
Specifications
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore established the new elevator maintenance regulations in August 2022 to enhance maintenance efficiency. Fujitec Singapore’s Fujitec Elemori system was certified in July 2024 under BCA’s “Code of Practice for Design and Performance of Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics for Lifts” standard. These unprecedented regulations stipulate the use of remote monitoring for elevator maintenance. These standards feature advanced criteria, including 24-h monitoring of operational status using a remote-monitoring system and the constant detection of signs of malfunction. Building managers benefit from reduced frequency of manned inspections from once a month to once every three months if each relevant elevator obtains certification through a six-month functional evaluation.
Fujitec Singapore Initiatives
Fujitec Singapore obtained certification for Jurong Town Corp., a government agency that develops land and manages buildings in Singapore. Fujitec Singapore renewed its remote-monitoring system to receive this certification. The company also refurbished control panels for the relevant elevators and developed a new application for the building manager to view operation status.
Fujitec Singapore plans to increase the adoption and deployment of this system in the coming years. By enhancing productivity through the remote-monitoring system, the company strived to alleviate labor shortages for engineers.
Fujitec looks to adopt this remote-monitoring system on a global basis under its new Move On 5 Medium-Term Management Plan. The company is committed to providing users with even greater safety and reliability. To this end, Fujitec strives to introduce remote-monitoring systems utilizing the latest digital technology to collect and analyze detailed data and take appropriate preventive maintenance measures.

Piece of the Sustainability Puzzle
In its pursuit of sustainability, Fujitec defines six materialities. The remote-monitoring initiatives in Singapore fall under the “Efforts to Reduce Environmental Impact” materiality, which entails contributing to a low-carbon society in response to climate change. This materiality also involves strengthening Fujitec’s ability to conserve energy and implementing product life cycle management.
