Turkey Elevator Industrialists Federation (TASFED) investigated the “Elevator Safety Equipment Test and Development Center,” contained within Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry BTSO Vocational Competency Examination and Certification Center (BTSO MESYEB) and which started testing elevator safety components on site on August 5, 2021.

The Elevator Safety Equipment Test and Development Center, where safety components are tested and inspected, hosted TASFED Chairman Yusuf Atik and TASFED board members. BTSO Machinery Council President Cem Bozdağ and BTSO MESYED CEO Ramazan Karakök welcomed the delegation and Bursa Elevator Industrialists Association (BURSAD) President Ali Gültekin. Following the consultation meeting, the delegation investigated the center, contained within BTSO MESYEB and established with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and got information about their studies.

Atik emphasized that, thanks to the test center, the local elevator industry will gain strength in the international market, and said, “Elevator Safety Equipment Test and Development Center, established in cooperation with the Ministry and BTSO MESYEB, will meet an important need of our industrialists. I would like to congratulate BTSO for this project.”

“The Center Will Help Us Get Stronger in the International Market”

Atik emphasized that the project was an important step to develop elevator technologies, and drew attention to the development of the domestic elevator industry. “There is nothing to prevent the growth of our domestic elevator industry. I believe the Elevator Safety Equipment Test and Development Center will contribute to strengthen our position in international elevator market,” he said.

Tests Started

Karakök said elevator safety component tests have started in the laboratory accredited by TÜRKAK, and gave some information about the test process. He reminded those present that they make examinations and certifications all over the country, and said, “Our center operates within the scope of market surveillance activities carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Tests have already started. We want to improve the comprehensive infrastructure here together with industry representatives. Not only carrying out tests and preparing reports, but we also aim to add value to the elevator industry. We also expect TASFED’s contribution to Turkey’s first and only center where elevator central executive committee certification is carried out, where there is an energy-efficiency laboratory and where elevator components are tested.”

The Operations in the Test Center

Transparency is prioritized

Transparency is prioritized in the tests carried out at the Elevator Safety Equipment Test and Development Center. Starting from when the product sample arrives at the test center, it is recorded and tracked. The manufacturer can also attend the tests. Great attention is paid to the testing phase, and an information repository is created.

Deficiencies are reported

The user manual of the sample is carefully read before the installation, and then deficiencies are reported to relevant departments of the Ministry.

Objection to the tests is possible

The manufacturer has the right of objection to the tests carried out at the center.  Upon objection, the second sample is tested and, if the same problem is detected again, the manufacturer is charged for the test. On the other hand, if the objection is accepted, the manufacturer is not charged for the second test.

Test Fees Are Between 9 and 17 thousand TRY

Each of the tests has a separate cost: the brake test costs 17 thousand TRY, while the buffer and regulator tests cost 9 thousand TRY.

Attention Should Be Paid to the Certification Process

All technical details of the products to be tested are examined in detail. Here, one of the important steps is the certification. One of the important issues is the correct certification of the tested product by the certification company.

International Brands Will Also Be Tested

MESYEB, which takes great care to ensure that the studies on the reliability of the products are free from contradictions, made a preliminary study for data analysis between domestic and foreign products. At the center, which provides a basis for comparing domestic and foreign products, brakes manufactured by the worldwide-known brands have also been tested.  According to the latest information, the Ministry of Commerce is conducting a study to test the products of foreign brands at this center.

Ur-Ge Project

BTSO Machinery Committee President Cem Bozdağ gave information on BTSO’s efforts for the elevator industry and announced that they are carrying out the Ur-Ge project supported by the Ministry of Commerce. Stating that 28 companies were involved inthe project, and some setbacks were experienced due to the pandemic, Bozdağ said “When the impact of the pandemic decreases, Ur-Ge project will become more active and industry representatives will start attending international fairs and B2B activities.”

Bozdağ pointed out that the needs analysis of the companies was prepared, and the training program started within the scope of Ur-Ge project.  He emphasized that the first training was about “aggregation” and said, “We need to tell the companies that they are not competitors but colleagues and the benefits of aggregation.”

Qualified Personnel with the Cooperation of BUTGEM and İŞKUR

Stating that they are aware of the shortage of a qualified workforce, Bozdağ gave information about their studies on the issue. He said that the Bursa Design and Technology Development Center (BUTGEM), operating under the umbrella of BTSO and İŞKUR, started a joint program. The ones who look for a job at İŞKUR will attend training at BUTGEM and, in this way, the need for qualified personnel will be met.
