Thyssenkrupp Releases Energy Calculator 2.0

Thyssenkrupp-Releases-Energy-Calculator-2-0

ThyssenKrupp Elevator Americas has launched Energy Calculator 2.0, an update of its original calculator. The device offers building owners, facility managers, elevator consultants and architects technical assistance in determining which elevator technology is most efficient for new construction and modernization projects. The tool uses building type to predefine traffic patterns to identify realistic elevator use and traffic flow.

The new version includes features such as: side-by-side elevator com-parison; a currency selection option; a kWh rate option; drive type descrip-tions; and a CO2 reduction calculation. Side-by-side elevator comparison allows users to concurrently view different technologies for new instal-lation or different generations of technologies for modernization. This view allows for on-screen comparisons of minor tweaks, including lighting changes and speed differences for optimum energy efficiency.

Energy Calculator 2.0 takes various specifications into account, such as building type, number of floors, drive type, speed and cab lighting. The tool provides an estimate of an elevator’s energy consumption and offers the user their total energy consumption, as well as a breakdown of energy costs by category: cab exhaust fan; cab lighting; machine-room cooling; and the elevator itself. Each calcula-tion includes the reduction impact of CO2 emissions associated with it to help users bidding on green-building projects better understand environ-mental impact beyond energy usage.

Kärcher Escalator Step Cleaner

Kärcher Cleaning Systems Pvt. Ltd.’s BR 47-35 ESC is an escalator/ moving-walk step cleaner that uses four different sets of combs to suit most makes. Like those of a scrubber vacuum, these combs engage in the tread grooves to provide a seal be-tween the machine and the treads for efficient pickup. The product offers a working width of 470 mm and weighs 90 kg.

Wet cleaning with the BR 47-35 ESC is performed while the escalator or moving walk runs. The machine is positioned at the bottom of the escalator, with the treads moving away from the machine. Special nozzles spray the cleaning solution onto the scrubbing brushes, which then apply it to the treads. Dirty cleaning solution is vacuumed away in the same operation. This is assisted by pickup brushes, which convey the solution to the suction nozzles. The shape of the brush head and central brush motor allow the brushes to reach and clean the outermost grooves in the tread. A centering skid in the middle of the brush head keeps the machine in alignment during the cleaning process.

The product has two cylindrical brushes on its head and a foot pedal for pressing the head onto the escalator, with automatic switch off if pressure to the foot pedal is removed. Its dimensions of 1,200 mm X 670 mm X 1,100 mm make transporting the device easy in a van. Its tubular steel frame is powder coated, and its tank is stainless steel. The sound produced during operation is 75 dB. 230 V power the 1,100-W brush and 800-W suction motor.

Mitsubishi Electric Touchless-Control Technology

Mitsubishi Electric now exclusively offers the Japanese market its touch-less-control elevator technology, enabling people to command an elevator and select a destination without pushing a button. When a passenger approaches the elevator hall and moves within 12 in. of a sensor for more than 1.5 s, the car is automatically called. Once inside the elevator, the passenger states the desired floor number. The destination is registered, and the car moves to that floor. This is an application of Mitsubishi Electric’s voice recognition technology, which reduces false recognition rates by more than 50% compared to that of conventional technology.

LED Demarcation Light

The LED Demarcation Light from Adams Elevator Equipment Co. helps alert escalator passengers when they are approaching a danger point by emitting bright points of green light directed toward the passenger’s eyes. Unlike traditional fluorescent lights, which light up the entire machine area, the LED Demarcation Light directs light only where needed, consuming less energy. The units are water resistant and come with a life-time manufacturer’s warranty.

Schlage Eck400 Elevator Kit

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, a leading global provider of security and safety solutions and manufacturer of Schlage contactless smart credentials and readers, has announced the launch of its ECK400 Elevator Kit, which could potentially reduce elevator installation costs. Though traveling cables are generally included during installation, they can be ill equipped to reliably trans-port credential data from the cab to the elevator controller. The ECK400 works with an access-control system to provide up to 1,000 ft. of clear line-of-sight elevator access control, eliminating the problems and costs of traveling cable.

According to Ingersoll Rand, elevator shafts are harsh electrical environments and often the source of data-corrupting noise that becomes induced onto card-reader data lines. This can cause inconsistent performance, which often worsens over time as cable shielding decays due to constant movement. These conditions make elevators prime candidates for wireless systems. The ECK400 eliminates the need for data lines in elevators up to 1,000 ft. and provides consistent, reliable data transport. Installation of the product can save between US$2,600 and US$13,000 per elevator.

The kit includes a panel interface module (PIM), wireless reader inter-face, antenna and 12-VDC trans-former. The antenna attaches to the elevator-shaft ceiling, while the wireless reader is installed on the roof of the cab. The card reader is positioned inside the cab, and the PIM mounts to the elevator shaft wall.

Eaton Soft-Start Controllers

Eaton Corp. now offers its DS7 line of compact soft-start controllers designed for reliable and efficient soft starting. The line provides smooth acceleration and deceleration of the load, minimizes shock to mechanical components, extends system life and reduces downtime. Designed for pump, fan and conveyor-belt applications, the soft starters reduce demands made on a motor during startup, resulting in reduced energy requirements.

Due to its small size, the product does not necessitate a change in enclosure sizes or additional assemblies. It is available in current ranges from 16-32 amps and can take 24 V of direct or alternating current, or 110-230 V of alternating control voltage. It is also Underwriters Laboratories approved.

Insta-Level

The Insta-Level™ was engineered by a professional builder to make leveling vertical objects easier and more accurate. By combining a tube level and two bulls-eye levels, the Insta-Level has a unique angled de-sign to lock on corners and cylinders for 360° leveling. In addition, the tool levels horizontally and has its own ruler, eliminating the need for a separate measuring tape and allowing users to concurrently level and measure. The level can be used to plumb doors, frames and to check the racking of an opening. The 12-in. model can be special ordered with magnetic tape inside the angle, which allows for hands-free leveling when using a ferrous surface. The level is made from durable ABS thermoplastic material and is manufactured within the tolerances established by the vial manufacturers, which have a sensitivity of approximately 37 min. per 2 mm of movement. The Insta-Level is available in 12-in., 24-in. and 36-in. sizes.

For more information, contact Insta-Level at 975 Woodoak Lane, Suite 100, Salt Lake City, Utah 84117; toll free: (888) 200-7001; phone:(801) 228-8889; fax: (801) 262-0197; e-mail: instalevel@gmail.com; or website: www.instalevel.com.
