After taking his first elevator ride as child, Andrew Reams was hooked. Reams has turned his elevator enthusiasm into a successful YouTube channel, founded in 2006. Today, more than 100,000 subscribers tune in for his “elevaTOURS,” which often focus on autism outreach. Recently, Reams joined TK Elevator (TKE) team members, including Head of Business Transformation and Strategy/Chief Program Management Officer Susan Willens, at the company’s North American headquarters in Atlanta. Reams, along with two young elevator fans, toured the 18-shaft Innovation Complex elevator qualification and test tower. The visit came about through TKE’s Safety Ambassadors’ Club program. Developed by Head of Communications & Inclusion for North America Sasha Bailey, the program encourages its 800 elevator-loving members, many of whom are on the autism spectrum, to serve as ambassadors for escalator and elevator safety. According to Willens, the program is supported by TKE employees, who often take time to talk with members and their families or even send them old parts. Currently, TKE is working to revamp and improve the Safety Ambassadors’ Club program and sign-ups for new members have been temporarily paused.
