We have entered 2024, leaving behind the 100th anniversary of our Republic. None of the previously promised targets for the centenary have been achieved, and there were also difficulties in accessing cash due to high inflation and high interest rates. As if that were not enough, courts and the Supreme Court of Appeals did not comply with the constitutional court decision … In the face of all this negative data, the opportunity for foreign investors to invest in the country’s economy is decreasing day by day. Besides, some industrialists are trying to produce and survive in this environment. I hope they will have the opportunity to reach more foreign markets in 2024. As the ELEVATOR WORLD family, we do our best to promote our domestic producers abroad.
We ended the year 2023 as busy as a bee with several events. The most important of these events was undoubtedly the interlift held in Augsburg, Germany. Around 500 international companies opened booths at the event, which was held in Augsburg for the last time this year. Among these companies, 58 were from Türkiye. interlift will be held in Nuremberg beginning in 2025.
Just three weeks after interlift, the Global Elevator Exhibition (GEE), organized for the first time by Fierra Milano in Milan, Italy, opened its doors with more than 100 companies. Several companies and visitors from Europe, especially Italian companies, met at the Rho Fierra Milano fair area.
The fourth leg of the International Elevator and Escalator Symposium (IEES), organized by EW and Liftinstituut in a different country every year, took place in Edinburgh, the historical city of Scotland. There was a lot of interest in the event at The Balmoral Hotel, one of the symbols of the city.
The Turkish Elevator Industrialists Federation (TASFED) met with industry members in Mersin and Balıkesir. The meetings focused on problems in periodic maintenance and referred to the paths that members should follow in this regard.
Lift accidents, which frequently occur in our country, have always brought the issue of lift safety to the country’s agenda. Selçuk Gençol, Muharrem Çakırer, Tolga Göktaş and Süleyman Özcan relay important information to industry members with their valuable articles on security in this issue.
The 26th Project of the Year Awards, organized annually by EW, found their owners. The projects that won in a total of eight categories extend from one end of the world to the other, including the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic period we left behind, such huge special projects were built and put into service under grueling conditions.
In addition to the heavy earthquake damage we experienced in 2023, our country has left behind various economic and political crises and disasters. I hope we will not face another challenging test, other than the economic recession predicted for 2024. Happy New Year …
