Cruise on the Bosporus featured speeches, dinner and traditional entertainment.
Ziehl-Abegg Turkey marked 10 years of providing products such as elevator motors, drives, control engineering and components with a dinner cruise on the Bosporus featuring inspiring words from special guests, belly dancing and traditional Turkish music. The mood was upbeat, as the subsidiary reported sales have increased sixfold since being established, and sales show continued growth.
Your author was among the approximately 100 guests who attended, along with the six employees of the Ziehl-Abegg Turkey office in the Ataşeher district of Istanbul, including Managing Director M.Ömür Aydoğan. Customers, Ziehl-Abegg board members from the company headquarters in Germany and members of Turkish society and industry were also present, such as Professor A. Nilüfer Egrican of Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Taner Yönet, President of ISKID, the Turkish association for air and climate technology. Yönet spoke about Ziehl-Abegg’s long history, including that it survived two world wars long before establishing a presence in Turkey. He said:
“Ziehl-Abegg is a company that cares about innovation to a strong degree. The inspiration from nature can be clearly seen in all its products. Further, Ziehl-Abegg is a leading company in the market for fans. We’re thankful for all its contributions in this area in the Turkish market.”
While Ziehl-Abegg was originally focused on ventilation, today the company has a stake in drive systems worldwide. Family owned since its founding in 1910 by Emil Ziehl in Berlin, it has been headquartered in Kuenzelsau, Germany, since World War II, and has grown into a global leader in ventilation, drive technology and associated systems. It considers electric motors that provide power for elevators (as well as medical applications and deep-sea underwater vehicles) among its areas of expertise.
“Turkey is an important national economy with high growth — Ziehl-Abegg Chairman Peter Fenkl”
Ziehl-Abegg electric motors, drives and other components are found in many elevator systems that not only stay in Turkey but are also sold internationally by Turkish manufacturers. Its components can be found in many building systems throughout Turkey.
At the event, Ziehl-Abegg Chairman Peter Fenkl said he is pleased with the strong development of the Turkish subsidiary, stating:
“Turkey is an important national economy with high growth potential. It’s great to see how successfully we are operating in this market. I would like to thank our Turkish colleagues for their great job.”
At the anniversary celebration, Ziehl-Abegg’s cooling and climate technology took the spotlight with its new ZAbluefin impeller technology. The company observes:
“ZAbluefin employs scientific knowledge from the depths of the sea to achieve up to 15% higher efficiency. The fan’s corrugated rear blades with tubercles (small humps) are inspired by the fins of the humpback whale. The result is a fan with optimum upstream flow angle and reduced flow separation on the blade surface, which diffuses sound output and reduces noise.”
At the end of the evening, guests were presented with bowls made from a ZAbluefin fan blade holding sweets, which the company described as “a piece of Ziehl-Abegg to touch.”
Ziehl-Abegg Turkey reports it has successfully entered new markets and is in the position to win many new customers. Aydoğan and his fellow employees said they look forward to celebrating many future anniversaries.
