10 Injured in Chain-Reaction Escalator Fall in Hong Kong

Ten elderly people were injured in a chain-reaction escalator fall at a mall in Hong Kong on September 21, The Standard is among outlets to report. A woman fell at the bottom of the escalator, resulting in a “domino effect” of the trailing elderly passengers falling and sustaining head injuries and fractures. The escalator was shut off in the wake of the “chaotic” incident as injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital. They had been attending a charity event at a restaurant in the mall. Hong Kong’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department was investigating the incident before reopening the escalator.
