Philippe Delorme, CEO of KONE, which is celebrating its 30th year in Türkiye, and Bora Tuncer, KONE general manager for Türkiye and Kazakhstan, recently held a press conference to discuss Türkiye’s global strategies and goals. At the meeting, Delorme said, “There are 25 million elevators in the world. Approximately 10 million of them need to be modernized. In Türkiye, 300,000 of the one million elevators are more than 15 years old. Figures show there is a huge opportunity in Türkiye in both the new construction and modernization markets.” Explaining KONE focuses on different areas depending on the state of the construction sector in each country, Delorme said, “There has been a decline in new construction in China, one of the major markets. We are growing in the modernization sector in that market. Europe is stable, while Asia, Africa and Türkiye are dynamic. The number of elevators that need to be modernized in Türkiye, new housing production and the urban transformation process present important opportunities.” When asked about EKA, a local elevator brand established with the guarantee of Emlak Konut, Delorme said, “We have both global and local competitors in Türkiye. EKA is one of our respected competitors.”
