6-Year-Old Trapped in Elevator Shaft in India Dies

A 6-year-old boy who became trapped between an elevator doorframe and shaft wall at an apartment building in Hyderabad, India, died on February 22 due to multiple organ failure while undergoing treatment, The Times of India is among outlets to report. The incident occurred on February 21, and the boy was rescued and transported to a hospital. Police said a mechanical malfunction is the likely cause of the tragedy, in which the elevator moved without warning as the child entered the unit, leaving his legs suspended in the doorframe and his upper body trapped between the elevator and the shaft wall.
