Structural work on 868 North Wells Street reached full height in Chicago’s Near North Side in late August, Chicago YIMBY reports. Developed by JDL, the 27-story high rise will have 411 units and 12,000 ft2 of retail. This 305-ft tall, mixed-use tower is part of the JDL’s North Union megaproject and replaces a low-rise brick building that was demolished last year. Once completed, the US$1.3 billion North Union complex will occupy 2.9 million ft2. Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture (HPA), the topped-out tower’s designer, told ELEVATOR WORLD that the building will be served by Otis Gen3 Peak™ elevators. Vertical-transportation consultation was provided by Jenkins & Huntington, Inc. The structure’s design features a glass and metal façade built on a hexagonal base. Power Construction is the general contractor and completion is expected by mid-2024, with the entire North Union development completing in 2026.
