Arrests Made After India Elevator Fall

Five people, including employees of a co-working space provider, have been arrested for alleged negligence that led to a lift crash which resulted in injuries to nine staffers of an IT firm in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, Devdiscourse reports. The investigation is ongoing, and more people could be arrested, according to officials. Nine people were in the building’s elevator when it fell from the eighth floor to the basement of the building, according to reports. Of the nine injured, two were discharged from the hospital soon after the incident, while others were stable and out of danger. According to reports, the co-working space provider’s owner and a number of employees were repeatedly told that the lift was faulty and were informed of malfunctions in the past. The report was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), the police said.
