Named for a plant found only on the southern tip of Africa, The Fynbos is being touted by developer Lurra Capital AG as a “one-of-a-kind” property in Africa designed by TwentyEightZeroTwo with a focus on nature, openness and sustainability. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reported on the launch of the 24-story, 689-apartment building on September 15, noting its Upper Bree Street location in central Cape Town and “synergy with the natural environment through the use of plants, trees and sustainable materials.” Including the Fynbos plant, the structure plans to incorporate 30 species of trees and 20 species of shrubs, all native to the area. Within its 26,814 m2 are set to be apartments of various sizes and amenities including a rooftop terrace, a lap pool, co-working space, a fitness center, a restaurant and a bar. Planters will be integrated into each unit, and cantilevered balconies will enhance shading and enable rainwater harvesting. A construction timeline was not provided.
