Bystanders Free Boy Stuck in Staten Island Mall Escalator

Approximately a dozen bystanders joined members of mall security and a K-9 police officer in attempts to free a boy’s leg stuck in an escalator at Staten Island Mall in Staten Island, NYC, on April 11, silive.com reports. The incident occurred at roughly 2:30 p.m. near a department store. Failed attempts to free the boy included trying to push the balustrade and applying lotion to the trapped limb. What finally worked was a metal rod provided by mall staff that a man used to pry back the wall and free the child. Sen. Diane Savino, who was among the bystanders, praised the team effort of everyone involved.
