Child Dies in India Elevator Pit Incident

A five-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water-filled pit in Kannamangala, Mahadevapura, India on October 23, India Today reports. At approximately 5 ft deep, the pit had been dug for the installation of an elevator in a new milk dairy building. Due to heavy rains, the pit had filled with water, creating a hazardous situation. According to reports, no precautions or barriers were put in place to prevent accidents. Eyewitnesses reported that the child lost his balance and fell into the pit, leading to the incident. Police have registered a First Information Report against the milk dairy’s president for negligence, and authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the lack of safety measures around the construction site.
