Construction Launches On Tokyo Office Tower

Construction work on a project that will include a 23-story, 120-m-tall (394-ft) office tower in Tokyo has begun, the Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat reported on December 2. Known as Shibuya Chome 17 District Urban Redevelopment in Shibuya City, Tokyo, the bottom four levels will contain retail, with the lowest level to be integrated with an open plaza. Total leasable area will cover 24,950 m2 (268,600 ft2), with each floor offering about 1,325 m2 (14,260 ft2) of useable space. The design will include sustainable space for decarbonization and will be certified as Net Zero Energy Building. The architect for the project is Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei, and construction is being handled by Takenaka Corp. A previous, 13-story building was demolished in December 2020, and the new project is scheduled to open in the first half of 2024.
