The man who operates DAMAC, a major construction company in Dubai, has posted a plan to purchase land in Miami to build a new condo skyscraper, but some people are less than happy with plans at a site where 98 residents died when the building collapsed, Architect News reports. Hussain Sajwani, known for his ability to realize a number of Dubai projects, has proposed a minimum price, US$120 million, for the 2-acre property. With no competing bids arriving by a deadline in May, Sajwani need not battle for the property. DAMAC reportedly plans to build a high-end residential project on the site, but some nearby witnesses and neighbors are opposed to the project. In addition, some geotechnical engineers question the construction ability at the site, where actual weight limits have not been publicly released. Others have added that the land on the collapse site is sinking and unstable, asserting that extensive engineering is required before building another tall building is constructed.
