Elevator Planned To Enhance Accessibility at Canada Aquatics Center

Sandra Masters, mayor of Regina, the capital city of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, said an elevator will be incorporated into the design of a new aquatic center that will enable handicapped visitors to access a tall waterslide, Global News reports. The new aquatic center will be built on an empty lot that formerly housed a stadium. Regina residents have been calling on city leaders to enhance accessibility at the city’s recreational sites, including adding an elevator to an outdoor pool in the Wascana district. Masters told the source that the endeavor would cost approximately CAD1 million (US$736,335), so the city decided instead to allocate money toward increasing accessibility at five other recreational sites. The elevator at the new aquatic center “will be put into the design phase so it won’t be an add-on after the fact,” Masters said.
