A major modernization of the original escalator system serving the Myer Eastland department store in Ringwood, Victoria, Australia, is underway, headed toward targeted completion in September. Richie Lobert, director at Australia’s LML Lift Consultants — consultant on the project — shared a project update. Lobert explained that stage one of the project was to remove the big, original Otis 30 UCL geared AC elevator. It was replaced in 2022 to prepare for “this exciting project,” which represents the first time the store’s vertical-transportation system has undergone a major upgrade since it opened in the 1960s. In March, Lobert said preparation work was going well and on track for complete removal and replacement of the Myer escalators, “which have served the store extremely well over the years.” New escalators will be installed by Otis. Lobert extended special thanks to LML Project Manager Gary Brown, Otis Project Manager Andrej Stojanovski and Eastland Services Manager Jodi Long.
